CPSC Reveals Recalls
The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced that Effikal LLC has recalled approximately 45,000 automatic gas vent dampers. The problem with the units is that if the damper fails to open and the blocked vent switch does not activate, carbon monoxide could leak out of the vent pipe and poison consumers. The gas vent dampers were used with several different models of gas boiler systems. Please refer to the CPSC website www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml09/09008.html for the list of models. The site also contains the list of date codes and serial numbers of the units involved. The site also has a picture of the gas vent damper involved in this recall.
Wal-Mart has recalled approximately 210,000 General Electric toasters as a result of a fire and electric shock hazard. The toasters can develop an electric short circuit between the heating element and bread cage. 140 incidents have been reported involving fires or sparks coming from toasters or tripping circuit breakers. The toasters come in two or four slice models. The model numbers involved are as follows: two slice models: 169116; four slice models: 169115. The toasters were manufactured in China and are shown on the CPSC website address www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml08/08413.html .
The Delta Enterprise Corporation has announced the recall of 985,000 drop side cribs due as a result of a suffocation hazard. Safety pegs intended for use in the base of each leg were missing. As a result, the crib locks can disengage and the drop side lowered beyond the safety peg level. This condition creates a gap which can become an entrapment and suffocation hazard. This recall involves all cribs manufactured in Taiwan or Indonesia. This recall also involves several models. The models are listed on the CPSC website at www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml09/09017.html. The website also shows a picture of the defective condition.
