Last month we examined an LG front loading washing machine in order to determine why the loading door opened and spilled its contents. After doing so, the result was extensive water damage to the home where the machine was located. The machine in question was a model WM2487HWM. This incident was not the first that has been encountered. This was actually the third investigated incident in the past three years. The other two machines that have been involved in spilling the contents and causing water damage were models WM0642H and WM2777HW. It should be noted that whenever an attempt was made to determine the source of the fault, each machine worked perfectly after several cycles. During the last investigation, it was discovered that the water level pressure switch could fail. The failure caused the water valve to remain open allowing the wash tub to fill beyond what was normally required. When the water valve finally closed, stopping the flow of water, the tub filled to the extent that the pressure of the water against the loading door would overcome the electric latch and cause the door to open. It should be noted that a malfunctioning water valve could also do the same thing. Regardless of the cause, LG bears the responsibility for all damage caused by its machines.
