Volkswagen, Harley Davidson & Daimler Trucks Recall November 2011
Volkswagen has begun recalling 2009-2012 Jetta and Jetta Sportwagen, 2010-2012 Volkswagen Golf and 2010-2012 Audi A3 vehicles. The recalled vehicles were manufactured between May 2008-September 2011, May 2009-September 2011 and September 2009-September 2011 respectively. All of the recalled vehicles were equipped with 2.0 liter, TDI diesel engines. The problem with these vehicles is that the fuel lines can be made to vibrate with the fuel injection pulses. Injector line # 2 can develop small cracks which can lead to fuel leakage. Diesel fuel in the presence of an ignition source can result in a fire. For further information, contact Volkswagen at 1-800-822-8987.
Harley Davidson is recalling 2209-2012 Touring, CVO Touring and Trike vehicles. These vehicles were manufactured between June 6, 2008 and September 16, 2011. Heat from the exhaust system can contact the rear brake light switch. Three failure scenarios can develop: the switch may activate the brake light, activate the brake light when no brake is applied, and, cause a brake fluid leak at the brake light switch. Any of these conditions can increase the risk of a crash. For further information, owners can contact Harley Davidson at 1-414-343-4056.
Daimler Trucks is recalling 2005-2011 Freightliner Cascadia, Columbia, Century, Coronado, and Classic XL trucks. These trucks were manufactured between November 1, 2004 and June 15, 2010. The rack and pinion steering system has a problem with corrosion of the lower pinion bearing. Damage to the bearing can lead to damage to the spool valve seals. Hydraulic steering fluid can flow into the right or left turn ports and make steering more difficult because the vehicle will pull to the left or right. The recall is expected to begin December 6, 2011. For further information, owners can contact Daimler Trucks at 1-800-547-0712.
