      GE Recall of A/C Units

General Electric is recalling approximately 90,600 GE "Zoneline" air conditioners and heating units. These same units are typically referred to as packaged terminal air conditioning or PTAC units. These units also contain an electrical component (not identified) that can fail and ignite, posing a fire hazard to consumers. The units typically fail in the heating mode. The units were manufactured by the Sharp Corporation for General Electric. Four reports of smoke and/or fire and have been received, two involving property damage but, no injuries. The units involved in this recall were manufactured between January 2010 and March 2011. The model numbers of the affected units begin with "AZ41" or "AZ61". Furthermore, the serial numbers must begin with one of the following two letters: AT, DT, FT, GT, HT, LT, MT, RT, ST, TT, VT, ZT, AV, DV, and FV. Consumers should stop using these units in the heat mode and contact General Electric to schedule a free repair.
