  Recall News....          August 10, 2010

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued the following vehicle alerts for the month of July:

Blue Bird is recalling the following vehicles for a problem with the cruise control: 2010 and 2011 D3 "All American" school buses manufactured between May 13, 2009 and June 25, 2010; and 2011 "Vision" school buses manufactured between November 9, 2009 and June 24, 2010. In addition, Blue Bird is also recalling 2010 and 2011 D3 "All American" non school buses manufactured between May 19, 2009 and June 15, 2010; and 2011 "Vision" non school buses manufactured between April 9, 2009 and April 10, 2010. The cruise control can fail to deactivate when the brake pedal is depressed. For further information, Blue Bird can be contacted by calling 1-478-822-2242. Blue Bird's campaign number for this recall is R10SH.

Subaru is recalling 2010 and 2011 Outback and Legacy vehicles manufactured between April 28 through June 23, 2010 for a problem with the transmission. During the manufacturing process, a lubrication hole was omitted within the six speed transmission. As a result, without lubrication, the gears will eventually break. The failure can cause the vehicle to lose power and the driver to lose control resulting in a crash. For further information, Subaru can be contacted by calling 1-800782-2783. Subaru's recall campaign number is WVS-29.

Nissan is recalling 2009 - 2010 "Cube" vehicles due to a problem with the fuel system. The vehicles were manufactured between January 30, 2009 and July 30, 2010. After performing a rear barrier test crash, it was discovered that the amount of fuel leakage exceeded the allowable limits. As a result, a fire hazard exists if the fuel leak comes in contact with an ignition source. A special protector has been developed and is to be attached to the fuel recirculation line at the filler neck connector. For additional information, Nissan can be contacted by calling 1-800-647-7261. No campaign number information is available.

Toyota is  recalling 2000-2004 "Avalon" vehicles due to a defective steering lock bar. The bar has a tendency to crack. As time passes and the problem is not addressed, the crack will continue to grow until the bar breaks. Failure of the bar can result in the locking of the steering wheel and the loss of the ability of the driver to control the vehicle. Toyota is also recalling 2003-2007 Lexus LX470 vehicles for a problem with the steering shaft. The shaft was designed with a snap ring which can disengage when the vehicle encounters a severe impact to the front wheels. As a result, over time, the steering shaft can become disconnected and result in loss of vehicle control and crash. For additional information, Toyota can be contacted by calling 1-800-255-3987.
