Toyota Corolla, Matrix, and Pontiac Vibe Recall

On August 26, 2010 Toyota recalled approximately 1.13 million 2005-2008 Corolla and Matrix vehicles for a problem with the engine control module. General motors has also recalled approximately 200,000 2005-2008 Pontiac Vibe vehicles for the same problem. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the same engine control module was used in the subject vehicles. The problem with the modules is that they can crack and prevent the engine from starting. In addition, a cracked module circuit board can result in harsh shifting and engine stall when in operation and a vehicular crash. In the Corolla and Matrix vehicles, the vehicles are two wheel drive and contain 1ZZ-FE engines. For additional information, visit the NHTSA website at www.nhtsa.gov, campaign number 10V384000, or contact the Toyota Customer Experience Center at 1-800-331-4331.
