A problem with the gearshift lock has been identified and as a result, Chrysler LLC has recalled 576,417 vehicles. More specifically, the vehicles involved are 2001-2002 Dodge Ram vans, Dakota pick up trucks, and Durango SUV's; and 2002 Dodge Ram pickups. The problem centers around a bolt that keeps the gearshift locked while in the park position. The bolt can become worn allowing the gearshift to move out of position resulting in the movement of the vehicle. Movement of the vehicle can occur even if the key is not in the ignition.
NICB Offers Stolen Vehicle Database to public
The National Insurance Crime Bureau has made its stolen vehicle database available for public search. In the past, the database was available only to its insurance company members. However, in an effort to help combat fraud, the NICB has placed a link on its website that allows nonmember visitors to search the database and determine if a vehicle has been previously reported stolen. All of the vehicle identification numbers in the database were reported by NICB's member companies and the database is searchable free of charge. The NICB's web address is www.nicb.org .
